Having trouble buying flattering clothing for the tall woman?

It’s difficult enough for average-sized women, (14 and up) to find clothes that flatter their figure. Add a tall frame into the equation and you have a true style dilemma.

If you were blessed with the gene for height, you need a few ideas to look like a leggy runway model, instead of a frumpy version of a tree trunk. Here are my best tips for draping a tall frame in flattering and fabulous tall women’s clothing.

Want to unleash your inner Michelle Obama ? Here’s how:

Know your body type.

Are your voluptuous? Pear-shaped? Do you have a full bust or large hips?

Before you purchase one item of tall women’s clothing, know what your figure flaws are. Monochromatic clothing is slimming. V-necks reduce wide hips.

An a-line skirt minimizes a full bottom. Use women’s clothing tricks to conceal the bad and celebrate the good.

Focus on tailoring and fit, first.

Tall women must adjust for long torsos and long legs. Make sure that pants, particularly jeans or denim, have a lengthy rise and inseam to give adequate room in the leg and crotch.

If there is enough material in the garment, a master tailor can alter many clothes made for the tall woman at a minimal cost.

Use your height to your advantage.

Tall women can wear trendy clothes and designer runway creations much easier than petites and average height women.

But, remember, tall women’s clothes must be tailored to fit at the waist and bust properly. Ensure that your sleeve-lengths are never too short and your blazers are long enough to flatter your figure.

Shop at retailers that celebrate the tall woman.

Buy clothing for tall women at JessicaLondon.com, Spiegel, JC Penney, GAP and Metrostyle. These stores have departments and affordable clothing for tall women that is figure flattering and budget boosting.

Don’t forget that retail store outlets, consignment stores and major department stores sell discounted tall women’s clothing too.

More Tall Women Clothing Tips and Resources:

The most important rule for tall women, regardless of your body type, is to make sure that pants fit properly and dresses hit the knee or a little higher to flatter your tall frame.

Ill-fitting or too small clothing can make a tall women look juvenile or unprofessional at work.

  1. It is very good the way you have listed out the points to note. Can you also recommend a good online store where one can find really nice tall women’s clothing? Thanks

I am a 29 yr old, 6’0″ curvy girl from Minnesota, and I am writing to you to request a favor. Here is my issue. Have you heard of the “butt lifting” or “levanta cola” jeans? Well, they are simply amazing for giving us tall girls a curvy bumb that is perky. However, I have had the MOST difficult time finding any with an inseam suitable for my 36″ inseam needs :) I have found some great long jeans at http://www.alloy.com, but they don’t have any of the butt lifting/levanta cola jeans. And so I sent them a little message asking them to get them in, though I know just one suggest won’t due. I also wrote to other stores who supply the jeans, and they say they cater to the “general population.” Mean talls girls get to suffer ;) So I was wondering if you could do me a huge favor of suggesting to your blog readers that they write to alloy (email:customerservice@alloymerch.com) and suggest they add those jeans to their line as well? I would truly appreciate it #1, and #2 it would be great to help offer those flattering jeans to the tall ladies too! Thank you so much!

Done! I like Alloy, and was planning to buy some dresses and sandals from there, anyway.
