Albert Einstein once said, “If you are out to describe the truth, leave elegance to the tailor.”

As a fan of custom tailoring and clothing alterations, I could not agree more.

While an urban legend states that Einstein wore the same clothing everyday, in fact Karen C. Fox and Aries Keck’s book Einstein A to Z reveals that the famous genius wore beautiful silk vests, and dapper neckwear picked by his wife.

Mrs. Einstein I presume, fancied fine clothing and had a regular appointment with a special tailor to help swath her husband in fine clothing fit for a theoretical physicist.

The women’s trench coat was introduced into the 1920s and 1930s fashion lexicon when newly liberated women desired a crisp outwear alternative to pair with Coco Chanel’s menswear-inspired creations.

In the decades following this British invasion of outerwear, the trench coat remained a fashion choice for leggy models and secret agents (who were the only style patrons able to wear a belted coat adorned with D-rings, epaulets and flaps easily.)
